English Horizons: Literacy and Communicative Competence in English is an English book series carefully designed to support learners in developing
strong language skills that are essential for academic success and reallife communication. This book is aligned with the latest Revised K to 10 Curriculum of the Department of Education (DepEd) and aims to nurture students’ confidence, creativity, and critical thinking in using the English language.
This book provides a learner-centered and engaging approach to English instruction. Each lesson is thoughtfully organized to guide students through meaningful and progressive learning experiences. It begins with Set Your Learning Goals, which presents clear and achievable objectives to help
learners understand what they are expected to accomplish. This is followed by Spark Up Your Interest, an introductory activity that motivates students and connects new lessons to their prior knowledge. The section Read On and Beyond offers carefully created and selected reading passages that develop comprehension, appreciation of literature, and critical thinking skills. To strengthen vocabulary, Optimize Your Word Power provides varied and practical exercises that enrich learners’ language use. Meanwhile, Optimize Your Reading Skills focuses on improving comprehension strategies and analytical abilities, while Optimize Your Communication Skills enhances learners’ speaking and writing proficiency through interactive and real-life activities.
Through these integrated components, English Horizons promotes holistic language development by strengthening reading, writing, listening,
